UKUVUNA is a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) registered in South Africa, which focuses on practical skills in nutrition, permaculture and low external input agricultural methods for the development of sustainable livelihoods in urban, peri-urban and rural areas. Its work is made possible by many institutions and individuals who support it through various ways. We gratefully acknowledge their contributions. We also wish to specifically thank those who supported the production of this manual:
• The sterling support of various organizations and individuals that work in the field of sustainable agriculture and have built a body of knowledge on land use design systems certainly deserves recognition because the manual draws from their experiences;
• UKUVUNA is highly indebted to its Board for the continuous strategic guidance and support in the production of this Manual;
• We are thankful to various staff members of UKUVUNA led by the Chief Executive Officer, John Nzira, who prepared the ground work for the development of the manual and ensured that we got the right people to make the necessary contributions;
• We are very grateful to those who compiled the manual and spent hours researching the different issues and topics that make up the manual; and • UKUVUNA would also want to thank Mutizwa Mukute and Tafadzwa Marange, for expertly reviewing and editing the entire document to our satisfaction.
Lastly, we wish to thank various key informants from Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), government departments, the United Nations (UN) and other members of the public for providing useful and relevant information constituting this manual. Without their cooperation, it would not have been possible to come up with this important document.
